We have done quite a few of these jobs over the years. Due to the location of the module they suffer from water ingress. It damages the circuit board causing the module to have random faults, intermittent faults or a no start situation.

We have seen modules that are quite easy to repair to units that turn to dust once touched!

In this case, our customer had already sourced a replacement unit, we could have easily repaired the original.
The replacement module was also showing signs of water ingress, so our first job was to clean this up and to completely reflow the board with quality solder.

Next job was to clone the unit to the replacement module. 

This was relatively straightforward for once!

A full bench test was then carried out using PIWIS and a good old fashioned oscilloscope. 

No faults were found!

Finally, we added a layer of conformal coating to stop this from being an issue again in the future, which is what Porsche should have done at factory, either that or locate it to a better place!
