Porsche Boxster Alarm Unit 996.618.262.02 water damage and immobiliser problem
Adding to the complexity, water ingress and attempts to start the vehicle with a low battery caused data corruption of this 996.618.262.02 alarm module.
We have done many of these jobs over the years, around 2-3 a week across the business. Due to the location of the module they suffer from water ingress. It damages the circuit board causing the module to have random faults, intermittent faults or a no start situation.
Porsche Boxster Alarm Unit 996.618.262.02 water damage and immobiliser problem
We have seen modules that are quite easy to repair to units that turn to dust once touched!
As with all of these jobs, the first job is to completely strip the PCB of components and assess the damage.
Once detailed pictures of the damages are taken, its off into the chemical and DI ultrasonic bath. It is then manually dried then popped into the drying oven to make sure no moisture remains.
We can then get on to repairing the damage, in this case several damaged tracks, multiple capacitors and resistors had to be fixed/replaced.
Next job is to populate the PCB with the components we removed earlier using fresh, quality 60/40 solder.
After this was accomplished, we set about reconstructing the immobiliser data.
A full bench test was then carried out using PIWIS and a good old fashioned oscilloscope before finally getting 3 coats of (SR) conformal coating.
Finally, it is reunited with it’s case and sent back to our customer.
Job done!
